技术指标市场促进指数(BW MFI)显示每笔交易的价格波动。该指标的绝对值没有任何意义，只有其变动有。比尔·威廉姆斯对指标和成交量组合的意义作了如下描述：
市场促进指数和交易量增加，表示：a) 更多交易者进入市场(交易量增加)； b) 刚入场的交易者们沿着当期交易的方向开设头寸，即价格变动开始并加速。
市场促进指数和交易量减少。这表明交易者的兴趣已开始消失。市场促进指数上涨，但交易量减少。市场没有交易方交易量的支持，价格变化是“场内”交易员(中介 – 经纪商和交易商)投机导致的。
市场促进指数下跌但交易量增加。多头和空头激烈交锋，因为双方势均力敌,大量的买卖伴随着不显著的价格波动。双方之一(买家和卖家)最终会赢。通常这种突破发生的时候意味着趋势的开始或结束。比尔·威廉姆斯将其称为“屈膝礼”。
计算
要计算市场促进指数，需要从最高期价格减去最低期价格，并除以成交量。
BW MFI = RANGE*(HIGH-LOW)/VOLUME
其中：
RANGE - 乘数因子，调整小数点位置。
